Enter a Vibonese ceramics workshop and spend a day alongside someone who works clay every day.
Bottega Terra Antica is an active artisan workshop in the province of Vibo Valentia, where ceramics are still worked by hand, without mass production. Here clay is a living material, shaped slowly following ancient gestures handed down over time. The experience takes place entirely inside the workshop while work is already underway. The visitor enters a real environment: clay-stained hands, the wheel in motion, freshly shaped pieces left to dry. As time passes, the craftsman tells the story of the trade, explains the key steps and guides participants through the work. Everyone has the chance to get their hands on the clay, shape it, make mistakes and try again. You quickly understand that nothing can be forced and that every imperfection is part of the final result. During the experience a small ceramic object is created — simple and unique — which is completed and prepared to be taken home. You leave with hands still marked by clay and an object that tells the story of the experience lived.
